What do we do
Accelerating global decarbonization by strengthening national carbon markets and promoting interoperability among markets and methodologies.
The Open Coalition delivers focused technical cooperation, fosters shared principles and bridges technical and political dialogues across three thematic working groups:

Technical Workstreams

Why we do it

Carbon pricing and compliance carbon markets play a key role in achieving global climate goals targets by supporting cost-effective emissions reductions, driving innovation and investment in low-carbon development, and helping countries deliver their commitments under the Paris Agreement. Their impact depends on high-integrity design and implementation, including robust monitoring, reporting, verification and carbon accounting. to deliver emissions reductions. Cooperation can make them work better across scales and borders. Through international cooperation, peer learning and technical exchange, the Open Coalition enables members to share experience, build a common understanding of good practices and guiding principles. This aims to enhance policy effectiveness, and promote greater coherence and the exploration of long-term interoperability across diverse national circumstances.
